National Beer Day falling on a Tuesday is a cruel joke on all – to the alcoholics it’s yet another reminder of how the affliction takes no days off, to the rest it’s a warning that if you celebrate too hard, you’ll be talking about National Hangover Day soon after.
This IS a day to commemorate, however. The first thing we are doing here at What’s Trending is having beer with lunch. That is still 90 minutes away and it is certainly the prime factor keeping me alive at this point.
The second thing we are doing is serving up our five favorite beer-related videos.
“Beer Culture” – Full Movie
Beer Culture is an hour-long film about craft beer in the United States, of which there is a little bit of a shitload.
Beer Mile World Record – James ‘Jimbo’ Hansen
Just last week, Australia’s Jimbo Hansen claimed to have broken the world record for fastest “Beer Mile,” with a time of 4 minutes and 56 seconds. A beer mile, of course, is a mile run with a 12-oz. beer consumed at the start and then again in between each lap. Though some commenters dispute that the fourth beer was entirely consumed, Hansen appears to have at least matched the previous record-holder, set by James Nielsen of the U.S.
Homer Simpson and Beer
There are no shortage of great Homer Simpsons moments involving beer. We went with this one.
(Yes, this is from Season Four episode “Duffless,” where Homer quits drinking beer for a month, but it still counts.)
“The Chimay Trappist Beers”
Here’s a short video about the Trappist monk tradition that gives us delicious beers like Chimay and Rochefort which you should definitely consume if you ever have an extra $15 sitting around. (One Chimay is better than 10 Bud Lights, trust me.)
To top it all off, here’s the video for “Beercan,” a track from Beck’s major label debut Mellow Gold. It has less to do with beer than all the rest, but now that you’ve had about 10, run a beer mile and taken a tour of Trappist monasteries, you could do with some tunes.
I love beer.
Celebrating National Beer Day with a team lunch at @stoutburgers!
It looks like I’ve had 12 beers here but I swear that this was my first (and only) lunch beer.
