Actress and singer Selena Gomez shared a sweet behind-the-scenes video from the set of her hit Hulu show “Only Murders In The Building” , but promptly deleted it due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

All SAG-AFTRA union members are required to not post any promotional material associated with ongoing or previously filmed projects. The industry blackout began in July 2023, months after the WGA first went on strike for a variety of reasons. Some commenters on the actress’ now deleted post accused her of scabbing, and called the post “tone deaf” towards the lesser known actors currently striking who face dire circumstances.

“Only Murders In The Building” is currently airing on Hulu, with new episodes dropping weekly. The show additionally boasts stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, Paul Rudd, Meryl Streep, Ashley Park, Jesse Williams, and more.

Social Media Reactions

The post and its subsequent deletion were met with mixed reactions. Some feel that Gomez is only not facing consequences over the post due to her status. Some feel it is wrong on the part of the union, as they sense she is skirting consequences due to her level of fame. Gomez first hit the mainstream as a cast member of Disney Channel’s “Wizards Of Waverly Place” as a teenager. The actress has since made a name for herself in a number of successful films and television shows, the music world, and founded a cosmetics brand, Rare Beauty.

Others feel that the situation was blown out of proportion. The caption simply stated that she missed the production, and technically did not promote anything. Many feel that it was an honest mistake and that Gomez should not face repercussions over it.

None of the singer-actress’ costars have commented on the situation, and SAG-AFTRA has not addressed the now deleted post. It is unclear if the union intends to amend the rules of the strike regarding social media posts of this nature at this time. New episodes of “Only Murders In The Building” drop on Tuesday nights on Hulu.
