Remember “Couch Guy?” If you don’t, here’s a quick recap: a man was surprised by his long-distance girlfriend and his reaction was then recorded and posted in a TikTok that then went insanely viral for all the wrong reasons. The surprised boyfriend was accused of looking nervous or not excited, leading to many people believing he was cheating or caught doing something, to which he and his girlfriend both refused multiple times. According to TikTok, there’s a new “couch guy” but this time, this man gave a less than thrilled reaction when being surprised to a “Mike-themed 30th.” Using the same audio as the original “Couch Guy” video, many people compared this man’s reaction to the one of Couch Guy.

When the original poster, Sydni, goes to hug her boyfriend, he seems to stiffen slightly but does hug her back. However, in the video, the boyfriend, Michael, does not look surprised or very happy with the humorous themed birthday party that she worked hard to surprise and make him laugh. This is what launched the Couch Guy comparisons, unfortunately for this couple.

Though the video was originally posted on October 5th, it was overshadowed by the original Couch guy video, but this one is seeming to circle back with new comments pointing out the odd reaction. The couple tries to blow it off or convince viewers that the video was just a singular glimpse into the relationship, but people seem to not buy it, even after Sydni posts photos of her and her boyfriend cuddling or looking happy.
Many pointed out that though he seemed excited to see his other friends, he did not seem as excited when he saw her. One person joked that “This is how I would walk into a surprise party I specifically said I didn’t want.” The video now has 9 million views with 16,000 thousand comments. All in all, it seems if you want to use audio to discuss your significant other on TikTok, avoid using the song “Still Falling For You” by Ellie Goulding.
