Hailey Okula’s greatest dream was to become a mother, and on March 31st, that dream came true as she welcomed her son, Crew. But just moments later, tragedy struck when she suffered a rare childbirth complication, forcing her husband, Matthew, to make an unimaginable choice. Hailey, a 33-year-old ER nurse and beloved influencer known as “Nurse Hailey,” had shared her infertility struggles and pregnancy journey with nearly a million followers.
Instead of celebrating Crew’s arrival, her Instagram now holds a heartbreaking post from Matthew announcing her unexpected passing due to amniotic fluid embolism, a rare and often fatal condition. In an emotional interview, Matthew, a Los Angeles firefighter, recalled Hailey sharing a quick laugh about their baby’s size just minutes before going into cardiac arrest.
Now, as a grieving father, he is seeking community support “for the sake of Crew” hoping donations will allow him time away from work as they “rebuild the broken life Hailey and I had put together.” So far, the official GoFundMe has raised over $270,000 of its $350,000 goal.
