The women follow the man and girl into an empty alleyway. In the video, you can see him in the corner with the girl. She demanded he let the girl go and continued asking, “What are you doing with her?” The man later identified as Kadian Nelson tries to convince them that the girl is just his sister but unconvinced, they still followed him.

He then pushes the girl in front of him and continues walking. He called the woman filming a stalker and tells her to leave them alone. The woman didn’t care and focuses her attention on the young girl. She asks the girl multiple times if she was okay. As they were walking, he had his hand on the back of her neck.

As soon as the woman gets close to the two of them, Nelson leaves the scene and the little girl is explaining what happened while crying. She explained that she didn’t know who the man was and that he just took her on her way to school.

The video statement said, “when they found him at North Place (Micham/Colliers Wood), he had put his coat on her and made her perform sexual acts on him.”

The video finishes with the statement explanation of the situation and a warning. “Please anyone with young daughters/sisters or any vulnerable young women be aware especially in the dark winter mornings.”

Police Investigation

The video didn’t get a clear shot of the Kadian Nelson, but the Metropolitan Police still used the side shot of his profile to help identify him. It took a couple of hours but, the police did release the photo of the man who is identified as 26-year-old Kadian Nelson.

After the photo was released, people took to the streets to help find him. A video on Twitter showed people came for Nelson at his home while sharing his address on social media. Metropolitan Police told the people to go home. Owain Richards a Detective Superintendent warned people, “do not try to take the law into your own hands or you may end up doing something you regret and potentially face police action yourself.”

Police asked Nelson to hand himself in for “his own safety” after groups of people were outraged and looking for him. BBC reported that civilians did help find Nelson but the police got involved before any violence broke out. They found Kadian Nelson at his home and took him into police custody.

Met Police acknowledged the bravery of the woman who saved the girl, “the extraordinary bravery of a lady who followed and filmed them has almost certainly saved the victim from even further distress.”

They added that the video gave them good evidence “…for what I sincerely hope will be the swift apprehension and the early arrest of the attacker.”

Locals were very upset about the incident and many feared for their own children as anyone would. But Detective Superintendent Richards stressed the importance that they, “follow the right processes as we investigate this incident as any interference could potentially affect proceedings further down the line.”

The victim is a minor so any evidence that may identify her has been asked to not be shared.

Reactions

Social media quickly did what they can to help find him. People chimed in with their thoughts and fears about the video. Many felt angered by what they saw and even scared for their own safety in those situations.

The Woman Who Saved Her

People were thanking the woman on Twitter for saving the girl’s life. After getting a card, she tweets out saying she was only doing what was right.

She explained that it was her 11-year-old sister that brought the situation to her attention which is the reason she was able to save her in the first place. In the message at the end of the video, it explained “At 7:05 this morning, my little sister witnessed a man abducting a young girl whilst on her way to school. She noticed the man had his hands over her mouth whilst walking down Pitcairn Road (Mitcham) and was behaving in a strange manner.”

What an uplifting story! Do you think that social media played a part in helping get this man in police custody the same day?
