Look. If you’re a “man of a certain age”, back when newspapers where the #1 to get the latest news about the president’s extra marital affairs, and you were mad at bad Star Wars movies instead of good ones, then the Boondocks was an integral part of your media diet. The comic strip was beloved for its frank discussion of politics, race in America, and just culture and pop culture. It quickly became an Adult Swim show that ran for 3 seasons with its original creator Aaron McGruder, one season without him, then slowly disappeared as McGruder cleared his plate for more high concept comedy projects for Adult Swim and Amazon. Still, we can’t help but miss Huey, Riley, Grandad and Uncle Ruckus, and Aaron McGruder revealed a few comic strips as a surprise on Charlamagne Tha God’s Instagram page. The comic strips take aim at the Trump era, the people who still listen to Michael Jackson’s music despite the monstorous things slowly coming out about him, and more. Check out some of the comics below.

The characters have been missed, and it’s their personalities that are the crux of some of the most beloved comic strips here. RIley not knowing who the Russians are, and Huey discussing the Resistance against Trump as white people fighting against their twin brother is incredible stuff, and Grandad’s moving on from R. Kelly right to Michael Jackson is fantastic. In the message posted to Charlamagne’s Instagram from McGruder, McGruder says that these strips are a test to see what would happen and if he could do them, saying:

“Did these for fun (and to see if I still could). More to come… exactly how much more is tough to say. These strips were only possible due to the enormous talent of my good friend Seung Kim, who did the animation for the old show – and he’s a busy guy. Thanks to him and thanks to Charlamagne for putting these out for me while I get my instagram act together.”

In any case, we’re excited. What do you think of the newly revealed Boondocks comics? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter at @WhatsTrending.
