The legendary SNL comic appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon for a fantastically dramatic performance of his classic sketch -- "The Lady I Know" otherwise known as "Choppin' Broccoli."

  • The Today Show provides background on the sketch for the uninitiated...

Carvey first performed the song on “SNL” in 1986. In that skit, pretentious musician Stevens — recovering from a long bout with substance abuse — visits his record label to share some new compositions. Problem is, he hasn’t written them yet. So Stevens sits at a piano and wings it, offering a melodramatic stream-of-consciousness ditty about a woman who buys and chops a certain cruciferous vegetable.

  • But the "Choppin' Broccoli" bit didn't begin with SNL. In the following video, Carvey performs a rougher version of "The Lady I Know" in his SNL audition tape!
