Twitter Helps Owner Find Lost Dog

  • When Deirdre Anglin of Kilcock, Ireland, lost her dog Patch on Tuesday she immediately went to her social networks, posting a “Lost Dog” post on Facebook. When the dog was found after wandering inside an Irish Rail train early on Wednesday, the people there did the same thing, posting a “Found Dog” post, this time on Twitter:

  • The tweet was retweeted more than 500 times. Less than 40 minutes later, Irish Rail's official Twitter handle received a response from Patch’s owner via Twitter:

  • The dog, an adorable Jack Russell terrier, was safely returned to her owner on later that day. The dog went missing some 20 miles from where he was found, having been found early on Wednesday morning, where workers promptly named the pooch "Checkers." The AP reported that Ireland's widespread use of social media helped the dog find it's owner quickly, and assured that an audience for the dog's the disappearance would be available. Anglin then went back to Twitter to thank all those who helped, thanking them by posting another adorable photo of her pooch:
