Benoit Blanc is going to be sporting longer locks in the next Knives Out movie.

Director and writer Rian Johnson shared a first-look image to celebrate the beginning of filming Wake Up Dead Man, the third entry into a series of Knives Out mysteries. The black-and-white photo features Daniel Craig, who plays the eccentric Southern detective Benoit Blanc, standing alone on an empty studio stage wearing a three-piece suit and holding a hat, looking off into the distance. Unlike the clean-cut look Blanc rocks in Knives Out and Glass Onion, this time the world-famous detective has longer hair and possibly a bit of scruff.

Johnson captioned the photo, “Aaaaand we’re off! Today is day 1 of shooting on the next Benoit Blanc mystery “Wake Up Dead Man” – see you on the other side.”

Before Johnson revealed the official title, he shared a post that reads, “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.” He followed up with, “We’re about to go into production on the 3rd one, and I’m very, very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it’s going.”

Shortly after, Johnson posted the title reveal video narrated by Craig, “In the beginning, the knives came out. Then behold, the glass was shattered. But my most dangerous case yet is about to be revealed.”

The series is also known for having star-studded casts and Wake Up Dead Man will be no different. Josh O’Connor (“Challengers”), Cailee Spaeny (“Civil War”, “Priscilla”), Andrew Scott (“Ripley”, “All of Us Strangers”), Kerry Washington (“Little Fires Everywhere”, “Scandal”), Glenn Close (“Fatal Attraction”), Jeremy Renner (“The Avengers”), Mila Kunis (“Black Swan”), Daryl McCormack (“Good Luck to You, Leo Grande”), Josh Brolin (“Dune: Part Two”), Thomas Hayden Church (“Sideways”), and more expected to be announced.

Wake Up Dead Man is the second of the two Knives Out sequels Netflix bought for $450 million in 2021. Glass Onion premiered on Netflix with limited theatrical release. There is no word on whether Wake Up Dead Man will have the same distribution. We’ll also have to wait and see where Netflix and Johnson go from here with further Benoit Blanc mysteries.
