Netflix has officially renewed the comedy series “Nobody Wants This” for a second season, just weeks after its debut. The first season premiered on September 26, 2024, and the announcement of the renewal came from Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria at the Bloomberg Screentime conference in Los Angeles.

The upcoming season will see a shift in leadership as Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, both known for their work on the acclaimed series “Girls,” step in as showrunners and executive producers. They have already been working on the writers’ room for Season 2 for the past few weeks, bringing fresh perspectives to the series.

Erin Foster, the creator of “Nobody Wants This,” will remain involved as an executive producer. She expressed her enthusiasm for continuing the project alongside Konner and Kaplan, whom she admires. “Creating ‘Nobody Wants This’ will forever be a career highlight for me,” Foster stated. “The incredible cast, crew, producers, and executives all made this into the show it is today, and to experience viewers’ reactions to this series now that it’s out in the world has been more than anything I could have dreamed.”

The cast of “Nobody Wants This” features a talented ensemble, including Kristen Bell, Adam Brody, Stephanie Faracy, Michael Hitchcock, Tovah Feldshuh, Paul Ben-Victor, Emily Arlook, Jackie Tohn, Sherry Cola, and Shiloh Berman. The show follows Joanne (played by Bell), an agnostic podcast host, and Noah (portrayed by Brody), an unconventional rabbi navigating modern love. As they form a connection, the series explores the challenges they face due to their differing outlooks on life and the meddling of their well-meaning families, including Joanne’s sister Morgan and Noah’s brother Sasha.

Konner shared her excitement about joining the project, highlighting Foster’s unique creative voice. “It’s a dream to be working on ‘Nobody Wants This,’” she said. “Erin is the rare creator with a crystal clear voice and a genuinely collaborative spirit. I am a true fan of Erin’s show and also feel so lucky to be back in a room with two of my favorites, Bruce Kaplan and Sarah Heyward from ‘Girls.’”

The series has received a warm reception from audiences, quickly rising to the top of Netflix’s Top 10 English-language TV chart. In its opening days, “Nobody Wants This” ranked second, accumulating 10.3 million views. By its first full week, the show ascended to the number one position with 15.9 million views, surpassing other popular titles, including “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” Netflix calculates views based on total hours viewed divided by the show’s runtime.

The production team for Season 2 includes not only Konner and Kaplan but also Steven Levitan and Oly Obst as executive producers, along with Sara Foster, Danielle Stokdyk, and Jeff Morton. Nora Silver of Jenni Konner Productions will join as an executive producer for the upcoming season. The series is produced by 20th Television in association with Steven Levitan Productions.

With its unique premise and engaging characters, the series has carved out a space in the crowded streaming landscape, appealing to audiences looking for relatable narratives.
