Summary:

  • Disney is developing “Hocus Pocus 3” with original cast, eyeing theatrical release after “Hocus Pocus 2” on Disney+.

  • Plot details remain a mystery as the project is in early stages, following a long-awaited announcement in 2023.

  • Bette Midler confirms completion of a “brilliant” script for the sequel, with salary negotiations now settled.

“Hocus Pocus 3” is officially in early development at Disney Live Action Studios, with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy reprising their roles as the Sanderson sisters, Deadline reported.

Disney is eyeing a theatrical release for the third installment, a shift from 2022’s “Hocus Pocus 2,” which premiered exclusively on Disney+. Plot details remain under wraps, and the studio has declined to comment given the project’s early stage.

A third “Hocus Pocus” was first announced in 2023 by Sean Bailey, then president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, but the project stalled following his departure from the company in 2024.

Midler said in October 2025 that a “brilliant” script was already complete, citing logistics as the holdup. Deadline reported those issues were salary negotiations, which have since been settled.

Disney executive Jessica Virtue is overseeing the project.

The original “Hocus Pocus,” directed by Kenny Ortega, debuted in 1993 and grew into a Halloween cult classic. The 2022 sequel reunited the Sanderson sisters nearly three decades later, paving the way for a potential franchise finale.
