Bad Bunny is heading to the toy box. Pixar announced Tuesday that the Puerto Rican superstar will voice a new character called Pizza with Sunglasses, or Pizza con Gafas, in “Toy Story 5.”
The studio shared the news on Instagram with a teaser of the character, a pizza slice in black shades bouncing around with a laugh. “¡Vamos! @badbunnypr is Pizza with Sunglasses in #ToyStory5,” Pixar captioned the post.
Described as “effortlessly cool and mysterious,” Pizza with Sunglasses is part of a small group of forgotten toys living in an abandoned backyard shed. The cameo marks Bad Bunny’s first voice role in a major animated film. Disney also confirmed Tuesday that Alan Cumming has joined the cast.
The casting is a full-circle moment for the 32-year-old artist, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio. During the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, he posted homemade videos titled “Toy Story in the Times of Coronavirus,” voicing Woody, Buzz, Rex, and Forky himself.
“Toy Story 5” reunites Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack as Woody, Buzz, and Jessie, with Greta Lee voicing Lilypad, a smart tablet that becomes the gang’s newest rival as the franchise pits analog toys against electronics. The film, co-directed by Andrew Stanton and Kenna Harris with a score by Randy Newman, hits theaters June 19.
The role continues Bad Bunny’s steady Hollywood run following turns in “Bullet Train,” “Caught Stealing,” and the upcoming “Happy Gilmore 2.”
