Anna Sorokin, the woman known as Anna Delvey, has resumed her social media presence after a hiatus linked to her ongoing immigration case.

On August 16, Sorokin’s Instagram account reactivated with a post showcasing a series of outdoor images, accompanied by the caption, “Stockholm syndrome.” The photos, captured by photographer Oliver Halfin, depict Sorokin enjoying various settings, including a garden, a car, and other outdoor locations, reflecting a sense of freedom despite her house arrest.

Sorokin, who became infamous for posing as a wealthy socialite and defrauding banks, hotels, and socialites out of hundreds of thousands of dollars, had previously been barred from using social media as part of her legal proceedings. Her original grand larceny charges led to her conviction in April 2019. At that time, Sorokin was found guilty of multiple counts, including attempted grand larceny in the first degree, grand larceny in the second and third degrees, and theft of services. She was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in state prison, fined $24,000, and ordered to pay nearly $199,000 in restitution.

Sorokin served time in prison but was released early in 2021. However, her legal troubles were far from over. In March 2021, she was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying her visa. After spending several months in an ICE facility, Sorokin was granted release on October 5, 2022. She had to post a $10,000 bail, forfeit her social media accounts, and was placed on house arrest. Currently, she is serving her house arrest in Upstate New York, where she resides with well-known fashion publicist Kelly Cutrone.

Sorokin’s return to Instagram has been met with considerable interest from her followers and the media. Her recent social media activity includes plans to be more engaged with her audience and share updates about her life. Sorokin has also expressed her support for USA’s new reality show, *The Anonymous*, which focuses on themes of deception.

In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE on August 19, Sorokin expressed her gratitude to those who have supported her through her legal battles. “I would like to thank Judge Conroy and my attorneys John Sandweg and Catherine Hunstad for helping to reinstate my social media — the First Amendment is more important now than it has ever been,” Sorokin said. She also extended her thanks to her supporters, noting, “I am truly excited about my future and look forward to sharing more news soon.”

Sorokin’s initial rise to fame as the so-called “fake heiress” captured significant media attention. During her fraudulent escapades, it was estimated that she had stolen approximately $275,000. Despite the notoriety, Sorokin has expressed her discontent with the “fake heiress” label, describing it as the worst thing that has happened to her.
