Jennifer Garner’s debut at Comic-Con didn’t go quite as planned. On Saturday, the actress took to Instagram to share a dramatic turn of events from her visit to the San Diego Convention Center, where she and several others found themselves trapped in an elevator for over an hour.
Garner posted a series of videos documenting the ordeal, each timestamped to show the progression of their confinement. Her Instagram caption read, “Baby’s first Comic-Con: a short story.”
Garner was attending Comic-Con as a surprise guest following the screening of “Deadpool & Wolverine” on Thursday night. Despite the elevator mishap, she managed to make it to her panel.
In the initial video, filmed just two minutes into being stuck, Garner humorously commented, “I could use a Wolverine, I could use a Deadpool. I could use someone. Yeah, we’re looking for stairs.”
As time passed, the situation became increasingly uncomfortable. Eleven minutes into the ordeal, Garner posted another video noting that the temperature inside the elevator was rising and that they were in contact with emergency services. “I’m schvitz-y. I need to blot,” Garner said, visibly sweating. “Don’t cut the blue wire is what we’re hearing.”
By the 35-minute mark, Garner explained her decision to sit down, referencing popular TV shows for guidance. “I think I heard on an episode of *The Office* or *Brooklyn Nine-Nine* or something that you’re supposed to sit, so we’re sitting,” she said. At 41 minutes, Garner was seen dancing and singing “99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beer…”

When the situation extended to 45 minutes, they decided to call 911. A member of Garner’s team informed the operator that they were in San Diego, prompting Garner to joke, “I thought we were in Vegas.”
The situation showed signs of improvement at the one-hour mark when beeping noises and the return of elevator lights indicated that help was near. Garner, trying to stay positive, began singing Madonna’s “Like a Prayer.”
Finally, at the hour-and-12-minute mark, the elevator doors opened, and Garner and the others were greeted with cheers and relief as firefighters arrived on the scene.
Despite the hiccup, Garner made it to her Comic-Con panel, where she was able to discuss her surprise return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Last July, *The Hollywood Reporter* revealed that Garner would reprise her role as Elektra, the Marvel Comics assassin antiheroine, in “Deadpool 3.” This return marks her first appearance in the role since a nearly 20-year hiatus. Garner originally portrayed Elektra in 20th Century Fox’s 2003 film *Daredevil*, which starred Ben Affleck.
