Amazon Prime Video has canceled the comedy series Clean Slate after one season, the company confirmed. The series, which premiered on February 6, 2025, featured Laverne Cox and George Wallace and was one of the final projects produced by television legend Norman Lear before his death in 2023.

Plot and Reception

Clean Slate centers on Harry Slate (Wallace), an old-school car wash owner in Alabama, who undergoes personal growth when his estranged child, Desiree, played by Laverne Cox returns home after 17 years as a proud trans woman. The show explores themes of family, acceptance, and self-discovery. Despite its heartfelt storytelling, the series received mixed reviews, with some praising its warmth and others critiquing its approach to sensitive topics.

Production and Legacy

The series was co-created by Cox, Wallace, and Dan Ewen, with Norman Lear serving as an executive producer. It was produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Filming took place primarily in Georgia. The show’s cancellation marks the end of an era, as it was one of Lear’s last projects before his passing.

While Clean Slate will not return for a second season, its impact on television storytelling and representation remains significant.
