Final Destination is back, and it just pulled off its biggest kill yet.

“Final Destination: Bloodlines exploded into theaters this weekend with a $51 million domestic debut, not only marking a massive comeback for the horror franchise but also making it the highest-grossing opening in series history. The film, which brings back the signature “you cheated death, now pay the price” twist with a fresh cast and smarter scares, is already being hailed as a top-tier revival.

Audiences showed up, and they’re raving about the film. Rotten Tomatoes is stacked with a stunning 93% from critics and 89% from viewers, plus a solid B+ on CinemaScore. Fans are flooding X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit with reactions like “Best one since FD3” and “THIS is how you reboot a horror legacy.”

The buzz isn’t just fan-made. Warner Bros. is riding high, and execs are feeling it.

“The global theatrical business is alive and well!” wrote Nitin Chawla, CFO of Warner Bros. Motion Pictures Group, on LinkedIn. “Glad that WB Motion Pictures Group’s creative momentum is leading the charge, and proud to be part of the team that is making it all happen. Onwards and upwards!!”

Warner Bros. has every reason to celebrate. The film is the latest in a string of hits for the studio following “Sinners”, which just passed $300 million worldwide,  and “A Minecraft Movie,” still pulling in millions in its seventh weekend.  Now “Bloodlines” is positioned to become the franchise’s top grosser ever, with only $188 million needed globally to take the crown. Together, the three films are helping WB dominate the early summer box office conversation.

For longtime fans, especially millennials who binged the original series in high school, “Bloodlines” is a jolt of well-executed nostalgia. With Memorial Day and summer horror season heating up, this might just be the sleeper franchise to watch.
