Wes Anderson-Style Pregnancy Announcement is Cute…If You Like That Sort of Thing

It’s possible to do any kind of video, literally any genre you can think of, in “Wes Anderson style.” It’s been done with Forrest Gump, porno, and Star Wars. Basically, the Internet has boiled down Wes Anderson’s complex, signature style to a couple of symmetrically-framed shots with pastel colors.

None of this stopped Jacqueline Shu and her husband Ben Snyder from filming a pregnancy announcement with Anderson’s style in mind as well. The above video, “The Pretentious Presentation of the Uterine Inhabitant” is just that, though it thankfully doesn’t take itself all that seriously.

My main question: Has Anderson himself seen these parody videos? And if so, is he honored or annoyed? One would think the writer behind The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Life Aquatic would have a sense of humor about the whole thing, but maybe, just maybe, he’s sitting alone in his office, the lights turned off, watching YouTube and cursing under his breath… “I’m more than framing gimmickry and songs by The Kinks!!”

To give this trend a rest, I recommend a new parody style. Ladies and gentlemen of the Internet: please produce your upcoming announcements in the style of Paul Thomas Anderson. I’ll get Jonny Greenwood on the phone.
