Kim Kardashian has officially completed her legal studies, marking a major step in her long-term goal of becoming an attorney.

On May 21, the reality star and entrepreneur announced that she had graduated from her four-year Law Office Study Program, a California-based legal apprenticeship path, with a small ceremony attended by family and friends. Kardashian, 44, shared moments from the celebration on Instagram, showing her in a graduation cap as she was recognized on stage.

A Celebration Six Years in the Making

The Law Office Study Program typically takes four years, but due to COVID-related delays and her numerous professional obligations, Kardashian completed the program over six years. “I finally graduated law school after six years!!!” she wrote in one video, clearly emotional as she addressed her supporters.

Jessica Jackson, a human rights attorney and one of Kardashian’s mentors, spoke at the event. “Kim Kardashian walked into this program with nothing but a fierce desire to fight for justice. No law school lectures, no ivory tower shortcuts, just determination and a mountain of case log books to read,” she said.

Jackson highlighted the commitment Kardashian made: 18 hours of weekly study for 48 weeks per year—totaling over 5,000 hours—all while raising four children, managing businesses, filming TV shows, and advocating in courtrooms.

Support From Family and Friends

The backyard ceremony featured appearances from Kardashian’s children and sisters Khloé and Kourtney. Van Jones, a CNN commentator and longtime supporter of her legal efforts, also gave a speech.

“I am so proud of Kim. I just left her celebration lunch for graduating law school,” Khloé said in an Instagram Story. “I mean, I cannot believe this is years and years in the making.”

Kourtney also shared her excitement with a selfie in Kim’s graduation cap, captioned, “Supportive sister.”

The Road to the Bar Exam

Kardashian began her legal journey in 2018 through an apprenticeship with a San Francisco law firm. Without a college degree, she opted for California’s rare path to legal qualification that allows individuals to study under licensed attorneys instead of attending traditional law school.

Her progress hasn’t been without setbacks. In 2021, she passed the First-Year Law Student’s Examination—commonly known as the “baby bar”—on her fourth attempt.

“I failed this exam 3 times in 2 years, but I got back up each time and studied harder and tried again until I did it!!!” she posted at the time. “I was told by top lawyers that this was a close to impossible journey and harder than the traditional law school route.”

One Step Closer to Practicing Law

In March 2024, Kardashian took the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE), which tests legal ethics and is required before the California Bar Exam. A passing score on the MPRE is essential for anyone hoping to practice law in the state.

Kardashian first revealed her ambitions to follow in her late father Robert Kardashian Sr.’s legal footsteps in 2019. Since then, she’s worked extensively on criminal justice reform, helping to commute sentences for multiple incarcerated individuals.

While Kardashian has yet to take the bar exam, completing the Law Office Study Program marks a significant achievement in a journey many called nearly impossible.
