Acclaimed actor Timothée Chalamet has spoken out on the allegations surrounding his “Call Me By Your Name” costar Armie Hammer.
Chalamet’s role as Elio Perlman in the critically acclaimed film is largely regarded as his breakout role, leading to other opportunities to act in “Bones And All”, “Little Women,” “Dune”, “Beautiful Boy,” and more. Hammer, who plays Chalamet’s love interest in the film, was previously accused of violent assaults on a number of women, who alleged that the actor expressed disturbing cannibalistic fantasies.
Hammer first rose to fame for his role in “The Social Network” in 2010, playing both of the Winklevoss twins, who accused the real Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg of stealing their idea.
One rape allegation against Hammer was was investigated by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office and did not result in a charge. However, the number of frightening messages Hammer sent to other women, some with whom he had affairs during his marriage to host and actress Elizabeth Chambers, are yet to be further investigated by the justice system. Chambers and Hammer’s divorce was finalized this year.
In a new interview with GQ, Chalamet spoke on the allegations against Hammer for the first time. Journalist Daniel Riley wrote of his conversation with the actor, “Chalamet’s face went stiff when I asked him to describe how he personally experienced the allegations against Hammer,” to which the actor “reluctantly” responded with, “I don’t know.”
Chalamet added, “These things end up getting clickbaited so intensely. Disorienting is a good word.”

Social Media Reactions
Many were shocked to see Chalamet respond to the allegations, as they first broke two years ago. Some were disappointed to see the actor not comment further on supporting survivors of the assaults, and choosing the safest way to remove himself from the controversy.

So, after 3 years this is his response about his mentor? He can't even say a word to support victims of abuse?https://t.co/U6Ovx1R0Od

One X user pointed out that in 2021 Chalamet once said that Hammer’s allegations were “worthy of a larger conversation,” one that the actor is still yet to take part in.
Everyone in society has a role in standing against male violence against women, Chalamet has now fumbled this question about a man he openly called his mentor twice, originally in 2021 saying it was 'worthy of a larger conversation'. Elsewhere, others continue to insinuate that Hammer’s ex girlfriend, who remains unnamed, falsely accused him of assault, resulting in derailing his acting career. Hammer was last seen in hiding on the Cayman Islands.

Others felt that Chalamet’s wording could have actually referred to something else. At the same time that the allegations against Hammer broke, Chalamet had already begun working on “Bones And All,” a horror-romance story about two teenaged cannibals.

Chambers and Hammer’s divorce settlement, which was reached in June, remains sealed from the public. It still remains unclear whether Hammer intends to return to acting.
