Meet JANET, the Internet’s New Favorite Superhero

When Twitter user Amanda Mancino’s daughter Luca drew her bold new superhero, I’m sure she had no idea that the character would be such a hit. The superhero’s name is Janet — she’s green with green hair holding a giant pair of scissors and a twig she — according to the original author “smacks down jerks with”. The inscription below it says —“Janet cuts people in half with giant scissors (she’s a hero only to herself)”

Quickly, the internet became obsessed with Janet. The weird design, the amazing self esteem of her that she’s a hero only to herself (good for you, Janet), and fan art quickly poured in for the character from every corner of the internet. Cosmopolitan even interviewed ten year old Luca who said of Janet —

“She could be anybody, but she’s not like anybody,” Luca explained. “She’s really strong, in her mind and her body, and she does her own thing. She doesn’t have time for jerks. And she doesn’t give warnings. Janet is my perfect hero.”
