Now there’s a way to have your cake, eat it, and feed others with it, too! We’ve seen charities work miracles before, but this one takes the… well, the cake. (Sorry, but our recipe called for heaping puns.) Want to know more? Eliza Dushku, a longtime Feeding America supporter, dishes out more information about the cause in our exclusive video.

  • To kick off Hunger Action Month, The Cheesecake Factory catered a lunch for 300 members of a community in East Los Angeles and announced that they will donate $.25 to Feeding America — the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity — for every slice of their new Hershey’s Chocolate Bar Cheesecake sold through August 2012.

A little change goes a long way. Since 2009, The Cheesecake Factory’s contributions have added up to $2.1 million. That’s 14.7 million meals for someone’s struggling neighbor, relative, or friend.

Wilmer Valderrama, Ali Landry, and singer Monica (along with her husband, Lakers star Shannon Brown) helped serve lunch.

“To be here with this community,” Ali Landry told Tonic, “and actually kind of getting our hands dirty, or in this case my apron dirty, it’s as rewarding for me as it is, I’m sure, for these people that are enjoying this amazing meal. So, it’s great—I’m very honored to be here.”

Wilmer Valderrama knows first-hand how important these meals can be to a community. “When my family and I first came to America, we had a very humble start, and we used to eat dinner every other night,” he told Tonic. His wish that such resources had been available to his family keeps him coming back to pitch in with efforts to feed the hungry.

If you needed an excuse to eat cake, you’re welcome — and bon appetit.
