Rapper Cardi B is expecting her third child, she confirmed on Instagram on Thursday, August 1. The 31-year-old artist, known for her hit song “I Like It,” shared the news with her followers in a heartfelt post.
“With every ending comes a new beginning! I am so grateful to have shared this season with you, you have brought me more love, more life, and most of all renewed my power!” Cardi B wrote, accompanied by photos of herself in a red dress, showcasing her baby bump. “Reminded me that I can have it all! You’ve reminded me that I never have to choose between life, love, and my passion! I love you so much and cannot wait for you to witness what you helped me accomplish, what you pushed me to do!”

Cardi B’s announcement comes just one day after she filed for divorce from her estranged husband, Offset. The 32-year-old rapper, whose real name is Kiari Cephus, is the father of Cardi B’s two children—son Wave Set, 2½, and daughter Kulture Kiari, 6. According to a representative for Cardi B, the divorce is not related to cheating rumors but has been anticipated for some time.
“The decision to file for divorce was not sudden,” the representative told PEOPLE. “It’s not based on infidelity, but rather has been a long time coming.”
Cardi B is seeking primary custody of their two children in the divorce proceedings. The filing details were not available at press time. Offset also has three children from previous relationships: sons Jordan, 14, and Kody, 8, and daughter Kalea Marie, 9.
In December 2023, Cardi B publicly confirmed her single status during an Instagram Live session, revealing her struggle to share the news with the public. “I’ve been single for a minute now,” she said. “But I have been afraid… Not afraid, I just don’t know how to tell the world. But I feel like today has been, like, a sign.”

The rapper had previously hinted at the split through social media, including unfollowing Offset and posting cryptic messages. “I don’t know if you guys have been getting clues from me, from my Lives, or from my Stories, when I put some certain music, or find my unfollowings,” Cardi B noted.
Despite the separation, Cardi B and Offset have maintained a degree of public interaction. They celebrated New Year’s Eve together, and Offset directed Cardi B’s music video for “Like What (Freestyle)” in March. The couple was also seen at a Knicks game in May, and Cardi B described their relationship as “all right” in a Rolling Stone interview that same month.
In the interview, Cardi B reflected on the complexities of balancing her personal and professional life. She mentioned struggling with finding adequate childcare while working on her next album and expressed concern about relying too heavily on her parents for support. “I had them kids,” she said, referring to her children. “They came out of my p—-, not my mom’s. They’re mine.”
Cardi B and Offset’s relationship has been marked by numerous ups and downs since their marriage in September 2017. The couple announced their separation in 2018, reconciled, and then Cardi B filed for divorce in September 2020, only to later call it off.
In a 2020 interview with ELLE, Cardi B addressed the tumultuous nature of their relationship. “I do know that my relationship has a lot of drama and everything. But there’s a lot of love, there’s a lot of passion, there’s a lot of trust, there’s a big friendship,” she said. “It’s always us against the world.”
Offset has previously expressed his gratitude for his blended family, acknowledging Cardi B’s role in treating his children from previous relationships as her own. In an April 2022 interview with Essence, he remarked, “It’s a blessing to be able to have them all together, and to have a wife who’s open and treats them as if they’re her kids. It could be an issue, but I don’t have to go through that, and that’s beautiful.”
