Barbie’s YouTube is The Self Help Advocate We Never Knew We Needed

Remember when Barbie was just a dress up doll who had a house in Malibu that opened into three different levels? Well those were the days when Barbie didn’t have a YouTube channel, finally giving Barbie the platform she needed to speak about issues that many of us face today — such as mental health and depression.

I was looking through YouTube’s home page, seeing what kind of weird and wonderful videos I would come across on the website that gives anyone and everyone hours of entertainment, and I suddenly came across Barbie’s YouTube channel. Initially, I thought it may be a show for kids, to keep Barbie’s franchise as popular with the younger generation today, as it was when I was younger.

However, I was surprised when I watched a video of Barbie’s Vlog, titled ‘You Can Be Anything or Everything’. She began talking about a family tradition she has, where they write letters to themselves in the future, and how when she was younger, she drew an image of herself being an astronaut, princess and doctor all in one. This all led on to her discussing how her friend used to tease her about it, and how she couldn’t have all of these professions. She apparently googles this career combination and the first African American astronaut, who is also an engineer and physician, Mae Jemison, pops up. Barbie talks about how you can be anything you want to be, and you shouldn’t let anybody tell you otherwise.

There are 62 episodes of ‘Barbie Vlog’ on YouTube, and each and every one features a message that promotes self-love and worth. People on Twitter have been pointing out how Barbie has really hit the nail on the head with some of the things she’s talking about and how they are learning a lot of things from her.

Barbie’s video titled “The Sorry Reflex” appears to be her most popular, as it teaches us, especially women, that sorry isn’t always the best response to anything, as it makes us believe that we are in the wrong and we must apologize for being an inconvenience or annoying, when really, we aren’t either of those things.

Barbie’s YouTube channel can teach many of us huge life lessons and could also help many people who are battling with feelings of self-doubt. She is the realest YouTube we never thought we needed, and now Barbie has a new fanbase that won’t just be a fan of her Malibu Beach House.
