Ice Spice and Doja Cat got together for Instagram’s Close Friends Only podcast and got candid about career misconceptions and celeb crushes.
In the conversation, the two women ended up discussing Doja Cat’s critics online as of late and how both have been responding to internet hate.
“What’s the biggest misconception about you?” asks the Bronx rapper.
“One is that I’m unoriginal,” Doja Cat mentions. She goes on to add, “There’s a lot of people who think I, like, copy people. I pull a lot from — copy the greats… Then there’s some people who are like, ‘She’s flat-out unoriginal.’ That’s impossible!”
As of late, the rapper has been on tour for her latest album with many fans attending the near sold out shows for the Scarlet Tour.
Further in the conversation, Ice Spice dished out on her ’embarrassing’ first ever celebrity crush.
“It was Usher,” explains the “Princess Diana” performer in a clip shared by Billboard. “I saw him at the Met Gala and it was my first time ever seeing him, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, it’s him.”

“He’s beautiful,” Doja says, and Ice Spice agrees by noting, “Gorgeous man.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Ice Spice revealed the “checklist” for making it into her Close Friends Stories on Instagram. “The checklist would have to be we met in person at least once. That’s about it,” she simply explained, to which the “Paint the Town Red” star replied, “Well, d—! Put me on there.”
The full podcast episode of Close Friends Only, produced in collaboration with The Unwell Network, will go live across streaming platforms including Spotify, iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts and YouTube on Thursday (Dec. 7).
The two stars have both had quite the successful few years as of late.
Both are also Grammy-nominated at the upcoming 66th annual award show for their biggest songs of 2023. “Paint The Town Red” earned Doja Cat a Best Pop Solo Performance nomination as well as “Attention” landing in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category. Doja Cat has previously won the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance Grammy Award for “Kiss Me More” with SZA in 2022.
