Actress Marissa Bode, who recently made waves with her role in Wicked: Part 1, opened up about her whirlwind journey following the project’s global press tour and even deleted scenes that didn’t make the final cut.
While chatting with What’s Trending at the Out 100, Bode humorously commented on the discomfort of her boots but quickly shifted to the more important topic — how it feels to be in such a celebratory moment. “It’s great. I feel love. I feel comfortable. I feel in my element, and I feel very safe, which I love,” she said, exuding a sense of gratitude and contentment despite the challenges of a busy schedule.
The past few months have been a whirlwind for Bode, who spent time traveling across the globe for the film’s press tour. From Australia to New York, London, and back to Los Angeles, the actress admitted that adjusting to different time zones was no easy feat. “It’s been strange, almost going from the press tour in Australia, then back to LA, New York, London, and then coming back here, going into Thanksgiving… It’s been a whirlwind for sure,” she said. Despite the hectic pace, Bode described the experience as a lot of fun, especially as she saw the film through the eyes of those closest to her. “Just hearing their different takes on it has been really, really fun,” she added.
As for the release, Bode touched on some of the more playful moments that didn’t make it into the final cut. “There’s a scene that Bowen had recently brought up. It’s this montage scene that’s very silly and goofy — we’re having fun in the forest, having a picnic, and then randomly, Bach and Firo take their shirts off to chop wood. Because why not?” she said, laughing. “I think a lot of queer people would’ve loved to see that in the final cut,” Bode added, acknowledging that some moments were likely left on the cutting room floor that would have resonated with audiences.
When asked about returning to her roots, Bode highlighted how fulfilling it has been to reconnect with loved ones after a busy period. “I grew up in a very small community, so it’s very nice to come back into that and tap back into that and talk to my loved ones,” she said. Although she keeps in touch regularly with her parents, Bode is particularly excited about the upcoming opportunity to return home for the holidays. “I’m really excited to go back home this year. I’m not excited for the cold, though,” she joked, referring to her Midwest upbringing. As a “chronically cold” person, Bode said she’s much more comfortable in California’s warm climate. However, she is looking forward to reconnecting with friends and family in the small community she calls home.
Reflecting on her time on set, Bode shared a memorable experience with her young co-star, Nessa. “Meeting younger Nessa for the first time was great,” she recalled, adding that their bond has only grown stronger since the film wrapped. “I’m very close with her and her family now, and I love them all dearly,” Bode said, praising Nessa’s parents for being incredibly supportive. She also fondly described Nessa and her younger sister as “the cutest little things ever,” emphasizing how lucky she feels that they were cast in the same project.
