It’s been over 18 years since Nelly Furtado released her groundbreaking album *Loose*, but the Grammy-winning singer is still finding new ways to honor its legacy. In a recent interview with NME, Furtado, discussed her upcoming album *7* and hinted at a potential Las Vegas residency that could feature her iconic 2006 album in its entirety.

“I think it would be really fun for Timbaland and I to do a Vegas residency of *Loose*,” Furtado said. “We could play the album from beginning to end because I believe it captures the world we were in at the time.”

Furtado’s comments come as she prepares to release her first album in seven years, *7*, on September 20. The album *Loose*, which includes hits such as “Say It Right,” “Maneater,” and “Promiscuous,” was certified 3X platinum by the RIAA in November 2022, reflecting over 3 million equivalent album units sold in the U.S. since its debut.

Reflecting on the creation of *Loose*, Furtado shared her perspective on the album’s sound. “We didn’t want it to sound perfect. We wanted it to sound real,” she said. “The idea was to lay my trippy, melancholic, bittersweet melodies and lyrics over Tim’s heavy beats and make a dreamy type of mix within that.”

In addition to discussing her past work, Furtado revealed how her daughter Nevis, who is 20, influenced her new project. As an A&R for the album, Nevis offered critical feedback, including advising against the use of auto-tune. “She’d literally be like, ‘Mom, why are you using auto-tune on this song?’” Furtado recounted with a laugh. “You think it sounds cool but it doesn’t.”

Nevis also reminded her mother of the importance of authenticity in her music. “She also reminded me that people love my music because it’s three-dimensional,” Furtado added. “That made me dig even deeper.”

The release of *7* marks Furtado’s return to the studio after a significant hiatus. She welcomed both a son and another daughter since the release of her 2017 album *The Ride*. Furtado admitted she had not been in a studio for about three years before starting work on her new album. “But something told me I needed to get back in,” she said. “I knew I wanted to make an album that reminded me of the vibes and energy you get at a soundcheck when you hear your voice coming back at you loud from the speakers.”

Furtado’s recent activities also include a notable collaboration with Timbaland and Justin Timberlake on the track “Keep Going Up,” released in September. This collaboration marked the first time the trio had worked together since their 2017 hit “Give It to Me.” Furtado and Timbaland also appeared together at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, where they presented the Song of the Year award to Taylor Swift.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Furtado expressed her enthusiasm for reconnecting with her musical partners. “We’re so excited to be making music again,” she said. “It feels like a mini miracle for us that we could get back in and share the love and the chemistry again.”

With her new album on the horizon and hints of a potential Las Vegas residency celebrating *Loose*, Nelly Furtado continues to evolve as an artist while cherishing the milestones of her career.
