YouTube star NikkieTutorials is opening up in a new video after she was robbed at gunpoint, sharing with fans her emotions of the event as well as her struggles of the last few months. She has made headlines several times this year, but none quite as horrific as this experience.
The makeup guru and YouTuber with over 13 million subscribers, Nikkie de Jager, posted a video titled, “Letting you know I’m okay… Makeup Therapy” yesterday, after she and her fiance were robbed at gunpoint in their own home in the Netherlands on August 8.
Despite the trauma, emotions and sharing that her friend had just been diagnosed with breast cancer, Nikkie still put on a brave face and tried to keep it light in her latest Barbie-inspired makeup tutorial.
Nikkie said that at this time she will be focusing on her mental health and healing from the experience, but she wanted to let her fans know she is doing alright. This story made national headlines, so fans were worried about Nikkie and her fiance Dylan.
She said, “Having one of those worst nightmares come true is very surreal, but it also puts a lot of things in perspective. Now more than ever, you realize that family is everything. And being in good health is even more important. So maybe, one day, I’ll be able to tell you everything. But right now, it’s impossible for my mental state.”
2020 has not been so kind to Nikkie. It started in January when the YouTuber was blackmailed into revealing she is transgender. In a video titled, “I’m Coming Out”, she shared that someone had threatened to share her secret with the press and she wasn’t able to share this news about herself on her own terms. The video currently has over 35 million views and it garnered her media recognition for her strength and courage.

Later she revealed that she had begun struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in the wake of her coming out video, and the emotions continued after she made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Nikkie was invited to the talk show to speak about the video and the reception she got from fans, but unfortunately Nikkie did not have the best experience when she visited the Hollywood studio.
In a Pop Crave interview, she said, “Maybe I’m being naive, but I expected them to welcome me with confetti: ‘Welcome to The Ellen DeGeneres Show!’ But instead I got greeted by an angry intern, who was a bit overworked. I expected a Disney show, but I got a ‘Teletubbies’ after dark.” NikkieTutorials was one of the first celebrities to speak out about the workplace culture at The Ellen Show.
In the comment section of this latest video, viewers were very kind and shared their love for the YouTube star. One person said, “I really wish the universe would just give her a break,” and, “Hey Nikkie, I’m so proud of you for going through all the things you’ve gone through. I’m so happy that you’ve been using makeup. You always make me smile. Please take all the time you need off of Youtube, social media, whatever you need.” And finally, “My heart goes out to you. I’m so sorry you went through this. Take care of yourself, please.”
